Alicia Keys is Vitamin Water Woman

American R&B singer-songwriter, pianist and actress Alicia Keys was recently confirmed as the face of Glaceau’s Vitamin Water brand in a deal reportedly worth $50 million to the star.

With this, Alicia, 27, will follow in the footsteps of Jennifer Aniston and rapper 50 Cent, who made $400 million from his deal with the company last year. The ‘No One’ singer said she decided to partner with the drinks company after finding she couldn’t stop drinking the unique-tasting beverages.

“I don’t partner with anybody, but this really was natural for me because I’ve been a fan from the beginning,” she said. “I love their personality. Have you ever read the bottles? Don’t you just feel naturally smarter when you read it?”

Meanwhile, Alicia also hit the headlines last week with the news of her collaboration with White Stripes frontman Jack White to record “Another Way to Die”, the theme song for the new James Bond movie, “Quantum of Solace” due for release this November. This will be the first time a duet will be singing over the opening credit lines of a 007 film.

International Cosmo Covers Sizzle with Gisele

Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen has achieved the distinction of getting the same photo of hers (at least in the same pose) published on five Cosmpolitan magazine covers of five different countries. And all five of them this calendar year alone.

It started with the South Africa edition of Cosmopolitan magazine in January 2008. Cosmopolitan Russia expressed their admiration by following suit on their July 2008 issue cover. Pretty soon, it’s Gisele everywhere — Estonia (August 2008), followed by Australia (September 2008) and Germany (September 2008).

Obviously, it’s the same photo with her dress in different colors. Amazing Photoshop, or what.

Maternity Dresses: Fashionable or Comfortable?

Hollywood star Halle Berry created quite a stir last year with her statement: “I refuse to wear maternity clothes. Maybe when I’m 9 months I’ll have to.” Now, I wonder what prompted that line of thought from a such a famous fashion icon as Berry? Did she imagine that maternity dresses could not be stylish? Or comfortable?

I always had a sense for what’s fashion and what’s not (that’s just one of the reasons I love blogging on that), but with Berry’s declaration instigated me to look more at what women really thought about dressing while being pregnant. I talked to Janette, my co-worker, and she revealed that she has a range of Japanese Weekend suiting — less formal and more casual, with fabrics for bottoms, paired with knit tops with the comfort of cotton. And Janette certainly looks fashionable, comfortable–AND professional!

My cousin Sarah positively thought maternity clothes didn’t mean wearing your husband’s shirts and jeans. “Looking nice and hip when you’re carrying is a celebration of pregnancy,” she said. Sarah used to wear Juicy Couture maternity jeans with a comfortable waist and five pocket styling until late into pregnancy. She also said empire-waist styles are flattering to one’s growing body because of their high waistlines which show off one’s new curves. Pair it with some trendy yet comfortable pants and tops, and you’re set for any special occasion.

While certainly there’s no “right” or “wrong” kind of dress to wear when you’re expecting, some women feel that if they tried wearing “normal” clothes, they just feel and look fat, but with maternity dresses, they looked pregnant… which, I feel, is a very valid point. It’s important to feel good with your pregnancy, and with the stylish range of dresses, tops and pants available today, it’s a pleasure to shop around for that combination that makes you look–and feel–perfectly pregnant and à la mode!
