Triple Grammy and double MTV Music Video award winner Sean “Diddy” Combs has launched his new “I Am King” fragrance for men in style, unveiling a 172 X 54 feet billboard at Times Square, NYC.
“I am really proud of the new billboard and of the message that it conveys to everyone who gets to see it,” said the 39-year-old rap star in a statement. The scent follows his best-selling Unforgiven.
Earlier last month, music mogul had expressed his belief that it’s time for marketers to move away from the stereotype of the urban black male with lots of bling and move toward images of successful black men like Mr. Obama and… himself.
“When you see Barack Obama, you see a strong, elegant black man and when people see my ad, it’s almost like that’s the trend,” Combs reportedly told The Wall Street Journal.
The eau de toilette is offered in two sizes, 1.7 oz. for $57 and 3.4 oz. for $74.
Wondering where’s the Queen? Diddy probably knew someone would ask… to eliminate any speculation of sexism, Sean Combs has announced that an “I Am Queen” perfume will follow next in Fall 2009.

British actress-model Elizabeth Hurley is the cause of a rage among animal welfare activists for endorsing fur coats from American fur house Blackglama.

The company’s ads, which carry the tagline “What becomes a legend most?”, feature the 43-year-old beauty in only a black fur coat as a top.
“It’s shocking that she’s taking money to wear baby minks, who are skinned at six months old for Liz’s luxuries,” said Director of PETA Europe Robbie LeBlanc. “Her wardrobe is now as dead as her film career. Millions of animals are electrocuted and skinned alive, suffering terribly for the production of fur.”
For Hurley, the Blackglama deal is reportedly worth $450,000. Then again, the celebrity, who recently launched her own swimsuit line, has an estimated net worth of $20 million.
So what gives?

UK’s Quiz Call anchor and sensational Liz Fuller has signed up to be the new face of couture perfume Dream de Rachel Elbaz.
The ex-Miss Great Britain has been photographed for ads that will appear on billboards and buses in London, to be followed by an international campaign taking them to Paris and Dubai.
“I love the perfume and feel privileged to have been chosen to be the face of Dream,” said the 32-year-old Swansea stunner. “And though I have now been on TV for eight years, I am more excited about being on the London buses – just like Carrie in Sex and The City!”
“She’s a great designer and a good friend. It’s fantastic to be working with her,” Liz added about designer Rachel Elbaz.
The limited luxury edition 300ml crystal bottle of the scent, described as “a delicate blend of amber, patchouli and jasmine”, costs a mere £1,500 (about $2250). Surely just some ‘pocket money’ for some.
The Cardiff University journalism graduate is also the spokesperson for Pearl Drops Toothpaste, in a three-year deal.

Barbadian pop singer Rihanna has appeared in a series of advertisements for Gucci’s latest handbag collection — the well-publicized Tattoo Heart Collection.

The TV commercials show the 20-year-old Good Girl Gone Bad singer swinging the bag while running, with her stylish hair complementing her movements.
Gucci.com says when you purchase an item from the white Tattoo Heart Collection, the fashion company will donate a quarter of the sales to support UNICEF programs for orphans and children affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa. For some reason, it’s valid only from November 19, 2008 to January 31, 2009.
Rihanna’s ‘fresh look’ apparently impressed Gucci creative director Frida Giannini, who reportedly said, “I wanted Rihanna on board with this project because she’s so young, so modern, and so iconic.”
“I have always been a fan of the Gucci brand and the products, especially their handbags,” said Rihanna. “But most of all, I’m very very intrigued by what they’re doing with UNICEF. As an artist, I feel like its our duty to make it a better place if we can.”
In the ads here, what do you think of the size of the ‘handbags’? Maybe I’m not refined enough, but to me, they look more like the size of laundry hampers than handbags.
Then again, if Gucci and Rihanna say it’s a handbag, it probably is one.

Emmy Award-winning Kristen Johnston has become the latest celebrity to get naked for PETA’s campaigns — this time against horse-drawn carriages in New York City.

The ad, set to debut tomorrow in Central Park and appear on NYC cabs, is aimed at tourists planning to take a carriage ride in Central Park during the holidays. So what prompted Johnston to stand up (or lie down) against horse-drawn carriages?
Well, apparently the Third Rock from the Sun star watched the new movie Blinders, and was moved enough to comment, “I was blown away by the story and how these horses live—or actually, I should say, don’t live.”
“The horses go from this horrible job, where they’re pulling people through the streets of Manhattan all day, to this tiny jail cell in this building that’s like a cramped parking garage,” the 41-year-old celebrity adds. “I’d say to tourists considering coming to New York, there’s so much amazing stuff to do here. But please do something else. Go ice-skating, see a show, go shopping. I hope within the next year that there are no more horse-drawn carriages.”
PETA has been hitting the news for quite some time for showing celebrities in the nude in their campaigns against fur. To me, that does make some kind of sense, but what does getting nude have to do with horse-drawn carriages? The shock element? Or does PETA have a one-track mindset? Looks like we are being brain-washed into thinking that any ad that shows skin must be a PETA ad.
Move over, Playboy.
