Janet Jackson Slammed for Blackglama Campaign

Pop music celebrity Janet Jackson hasn’t exactly been the popularity eve since news of her campaign for fur barnd Blackglama surfaced recently – the singer has been receiving flak from the public, from animal activist group PETA, and most recently from Pamela Anderson.

The 44-year-old pop singer who signed up for fur company Blackglama’s “What Becomes a Legend?” campaign, expressed great honor in being chosen as one of the legendary faces to be featured in Blackglama’s historically famous fur ads.

But apparently, the excitement didn’t quite PETA activists. “It’s amazing what celebrities will do when their careers are on a downslide, but we didn’t think that Janet was this desperate,” said Amanda Schinke, PETA spokeswoman in a statement.

“Surely she knows enough about suffering and unjustified death to recognize that both occur in the production of a fur coat,” she added.

Glamour girl Pamela Anderson said that she is ‘disappointed’ by Janet Jackson’s move to sign up as the new face of a fur firm. She went on to call the singer “greedy” for backtracking on animal rights issues.

“It’s disappointing,” Anderson said.

“She has spoken out against fur before. I don’t know why some people stop listening to their heart. I guess some people get greedy, but it’s sad,” the Daily Star quoted her as telling Out magazine.

Jackson’s ads, shot by acclaimed photographer Rocco Laspata, will feature in top glossies such as Vanity Fair, Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar, as well as on billboards above Times Square in NYC.

With this Blackglama campaign, Jackson will be following in the footsteps of a number of other celebrities on the Blackglama roster: Sophia Loren, Diana Ross, Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Hurley and Liza Minnelli.

Is Jackson frazzled by all this? I wouldn’t think so, if her statement is any indication:

What makes a legend, to me, is someone who has made a major mark on the world that lasts forever. Not just with their art, but for example, Elizabeth Taylor is a legendary actor, but [there is] also her humanitarian efforts, working with AIDS and AIDS research. That, to me, is what really makes someone a legend. I have too much to accomplish to consider myself a legend.

Then again, she hasn’t yet replied to PETA…

Lady Gaga – Is She Your Cup of Tea?

As they say, love her or hate her, but you can’t ignore her – Lady Gaga. Especially not if you’re a tea lover, because the glamorous rock celebrity will soon be promoting the British tea brand Twinings, if there’s any truth behind the buzz.

It’s no secret that the 24-year-old star is a tea lover; she’s been known to request the stimulant during interviews, and a number of photos of her posing with tea cups have been circulating for a while.

“Her management have received a load of offers from major tea companies but Twinings are the front-runners,” UK’s newspaper The Sun quoted a source as saying.

“They want to launch a new tea with her face on it and discussions are taking place at the top level. Names like The Taste Of Gaga are being batted about. The idea is to have tasting sessions in which she would participate.”

The source added that the tasters are planning a new tea with an oriental flavor aimed at the younger generation.

There could even be a flavor named Lady Gaga…

Audrina Patridge Right Fit for Bongo Jeans

The Hills celebrity Audrina Patridge apparently is the right fit for Bongo apparel, which includes the junior brand featuring body hugging jeans, jackets and other lifestyle-related categories.

To support the launch this Fall at Sears and Kmart, Iconix Brand Group enlisted the 25-year-old reality star to be ‘heavily’ integrated into the marketing campaign.

The campaign will debut this September in glossies such as Teen Vogue, Seventeen and Cosmopolitan, in stores, throughout Sears and Kmart marketing collaterals, outdoor and online at bongo.com.

“I am thrilled to be working with Bongo as the brand is being re-launched at Sears and Kmart this fall,” said Patridge.

“Generations of women, including my mom and sisters, have loved this iconic brand, and it’s exciting to be a part of something that is so classically cool, American,” she added.

Dari Marder, chief marketing officer, Iconix, said: “In keeping with its young, hot-in-Hollywood history of spokespeople, Audrina was a natural fit for the Bongo brand.”

“She lives that glamorous, adventurous lifestyle that our Bongo customers are fascinated with. And, it doesn’t hurt that she looks amazing in our jeans.”

Apparently, for Patridge, the photo shoot was ‘more challenging than expected’.

“I’ve never done anything like this,” she told People magazine. “Tony Duran shoots supermodels so he had me jumping through the air and just letting loose and not worrying about posing.”

That should suit Audrina’s style!
