What’s It About a Woman in Sunglasses?

When it comes contemporary styling, there’s something about womens’ sunglasses that goes unsaid, yet felt immensely — they just drool of ‘cool’ and ’style.’ Why ELSE would I have a stylized picture of the biggest fashion icon of our times — Ms Victoria Beckham — right there in the header of this page?

Glamor, fashion, women and sunglasses are like the four directions — put them together and you have the world. For some reason, I tend to believe that women are ‘naturals’ when it comes to wearing shades. I’m not talking about celebrities alone here. My girlfriend Zahraine wears them like second skin and picks up what suits her best. For instance, she has a rather warm complexion, and uses warm shades like orange or peach undertones. She says blue and pink tones are for women with cooler skin colors. Also, she says, consider the color of your hair. Bright browns, jet blacks and fiery reds breathe warm, so your shades ought to ‘reflect’ them.

What about styling? A word about celebrity styling: Nicole Ritchie has popularized oversized plastic sunglasses in a range of colors with pink and tortoise frames, while Charlize Theron has been known to keep it vintage with bold retro colors and round oval frames. Britney has been photographed many a time with snake designed frames, mostly in brown lenses, as well as the aviator plastic framed sunglasses.

When it comes to your individual style, Zahraine says a woman must not forget that the sunglasses she chooses will probably be the most important part of her accessory. How does she feel in it? Does she prefer the ones with rims or without? What shape? Round or oval or square? These days many of women’s sunglasses have hinged spring temples which allow to fit a woman’s face exactly how they’re supposed to. Have you considered safety and eye protection? A good idea is to look for polarized sunglasses that filter out harmful rays, including UV rays.

Wow, now. We have a list of criteria that should make the ‘perfect’ sunglasses! Then again, there’s no such thing as the perfect shades. For one thing, it’s great to an idea of what’s the latest available in the market, along with options in styles and colors. Zahraine has at least 14 pairs of sunglasses (the last time I counted), and she’s thrilled each time she finds an exciting new design online. She says she’s has got the best deals on prices (and styles) browsing and shopping online.

Which is all fine. Well, here’s my point of view: I just feel that shopping online for sunglasses should be fun, with the confidence that you’re not paying through your nose (pun unintended) for them. Just make sure you enjoy the search before you decide!

I don’t know whether I should thank Nicole Richie or curse her for the oversized sunglass trend. I love mine, but get ridiculed almost daily for them!
