The much-hyped Katie Holmes ads for fashion house Mui Mui broke out today, while Holmes’ friend Victoria Beckham unleashed her campaign for Emporio Armani.

Incidentally, Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott shot both of the most-anticipated ads of the season. In a way, this put an end to the buzz as to how Holmes would fare as a fashion model — the 29-year-old mum of one appears every inch the sophisticated model in a striped frock and with slick black hair in the retro sci fi-inspired shoots Mui Mui’s Spring/Summer 2009 collection.

“Katie is soon going to start shooting the photographs for the spring 2009 campaign,” said a source. “She will be posing alongside real models, who will be positioned as ‘accessories’ in the campaign. It’s quite edgy and very different for Katie.”

Meanwhile, ex-Spice Girl Victoria Beckham shows off her trim body in a Armani black bra and panties, and yet another shot shows her outstretched on the floor

(nearly identical to the pose her husband David Beckham struck for Emporio Armani’s underwear). The Beckham-Armani deal is reported to be worth $15.6 million.

“Great underwear is alluring and provocative, so I wanted to work with someone who would make a real impression,” said Giorgio Armani.

While both ads will break next month, the Emporio shots will also be splashed across billboards in New York, London, Paris, Rome and Tokyo.
