Guess women know best what men should smell like. And Kylie Minogue is set to prove it. Called Inverse for Men, the scent will be the Australian singer’s sixth perfume — and the first for men — in three years when launched this September.

“It’s delicious. Girls can wear it but it’s really for men,” Kylie said about her perfume for men.
Was it inspired by one man in specific, or was it how she likes her men to smell?
“Men of good taste, yes. It’s manly, but it ends up being kind of powdery. Yummy,” Kylie added. The Inverse limited edition is for apparently “for the men in my life, who, as you know are complex, colorful characters.”
Apparently, she has had many men asking her to create a scent for men.
Kylie’s first signature perfume Darling, was released in September 2006, which was followed by two sequels, Sweet Darling, in 2007 and Showtime in 2008 – all created in association with beauty house Coty. Sexy Darling and Couture followed soon after to further boost the $100 million global franchise.
“It’s clear from a business standpoint we took a risk, because we’re not seeing a lot of female celebrities creating fragrances for men,” said Steve Mormoris, senior VP of global marketing for Coty Beauty.
“But in the case of Kylie Minogue, she has such a huge fan base of men and women — and now many women use men’s fragrances, so it made sense.”
The Inverse juice, an ambery oriental, is something Minogue developed with Givaudan’s Christophe Raynaud. A 50-ml eau de toilette of Inverse will retail at about US $42. The rectangular glass flacon with a metal top bottle is a Denis Assor design.
“Beauty is a very intriguing and exciting industry, and I almost have to pinch myself that I am part of it,” Minogue was quoted as saying in WWD.
“I spend half my life in airports, and I look at perfume fragrances and beauty products in a completely different way now.”
But songs and scents are not her only thing. The 40-year-old, Melbourne-bred, OBE-recipient claims a passion for fashion design – or clothing, if you may.
“Couture — there is nothing quite like it and I am very fortunate to be able to do things like that,” said Minogue in her interview.
“I come from nowhere. I come from the suburbs. I used to be on the machine buying scraps from the market. And then to be able to be in this world where I work with the world’s best designers and have couture made — I’m in heaven.”
Meanwhile, Kylie is busy preparing for her first US tour, which takes off on September 30 in San Francisco.
Inverse for Men will be available in selective distribution in Australia, the UK, the Netherlands and Germany.
And coming back to where we started… women ought to know what men should smell like. But would it still matter if Frenchman Olivier Martinez appreciates it?

Triple Grammy and double MTV Music Video award winner Sean “Diddy” Combs has launched his new “I Am King” fragrance for men in style, unveiling a 172 X 54 feet billboard at Times Square, NYC.
“I am really proud of the new billboard and of the message that it conveys to everyone who gets to see it,” said the 39-year-old rap star in a statement. The scent follows his best-selling Unforgiven.
Earlier last month, music mogul had expressed his belief that it’s time for marketers to move away from the stereotype of the urban black male with lots of bling and move toward images of successful black men like Mr. Obama and… himself.
“When you see Barack Obama, you see a strong, elegant black man and when people see my ad, it’s almost like that’s the trend,” Combs reportedly told The Wall Street Journal.
The eau de toilette is offered in two sizes, 1.7 oz. for $57 and 3.4 oz. for $74.
Wondering where’s the Queen? Diddy probably knew someone would ask… to eliminate any speculation of sexism, Sean Combs has announced that an “I Am Queen” perfume will follow next in Fall 2009.

Jennifer Lopez has launched Deseo, her new fragrance for men at Macy’s in New York.
Lopez partnered with pefrumers Jim Krivda and Ellen Molner to come up with Deseo, which means desire, and is said to have notes of bamboo leaves, jasmine, geranium and warm amber.

The actress, singer, record producer, dancer, fashion designer and TV producer, lived up to the glam in a flowing white Fendi gown and Yves Saint Laurent heels at the department store in Herald Square, Manhattan.
Amid cheers of “We love you, J-Lo”, the 390year old Latin bombshell signed autographs and bottles of perfume for fans.
The collection comprises eaux de toilette in two sizes, 1.7 oz. for $45 and 3.4 oz. for $55; a 3.4-oz. aftershave balm, $40, and a 2.4-oz. deodorant, $16. Fans will recall that the singer made her fragrance debut in 2002 with Glow By J.Lo.
I think it’s a great idea that a woman is creating a fragrance for men. I mean, isn’t it so appropriate? Who else but a woman would know what a man loves… or should smell like???

The ad featuring Hollywood actor Josh Hartnett for Giorgio Armani Diamonds for Men is out.

Hartnett was signed last month as the face of Armani’s new fragrance Diamonds for men. The scent was unveiled last week at the Spring Summer 2009 Men’s Fashion Week in Milan and will be on sale worldwide starting in August.
“The Emporio Armani generation is inspired by film and music,” Armani told WWD. “I felt that for the men’s Diamonds fragrance it would therefore be appropriate to involve one of today’s most inspiring young actors.
Diamonds for Men was created for urban, young men, Jacques Cavallier of Firmenich. It contains gourmet-woody aromatic juicy, with sparkling, sweet aromas of bergamot, with Guaiac, cocoa and ambroxan.
The square-shaped bottle like a cut diamond was designed by Giorgio Armani himself.

R&B singer Ciara is serious–she’s now a professional model with modeling agency Wilhemia while also planning a signature fashion line with Steve & Barry’s.
In a bid to diversify her appeal as well as advance her career, the ‘Promise’ singer will likely be posing for clothing and perfumes and design her own fashion apparel via Steve & Barry’s.
“Modeling has always been one of my aspirations,” says Ciara. “But I was insecure about my height. I thought I was 5 foot 7 inches but I just found out that I’m 5 foot 8 inches so I’m really excited about that.” Ciara is currently engaged in print campaigns for Jay Z’s Rocawear line.
The “1, 2 Step” singer has also unveiled plans to launch her own fashion line in the footsteps of actress Sarah Jessica Parker’s Bitten range.
“I have a couple of cool things that I’m working on,” she said about her fashion line. “The coolest thing about Steve & Barry’s is they cater to everyday people. I won’t say that my line will be like theirs, I want to stay true to who I am, but most importantly it has to be affordable.”
Ciara, 22, whose “Fantasy Ride” breaks this September, is also appearing in the film “Mama I Want To Sing,” co-starring Lynn Whitfield and Patti LaBelle, due for a release this year.
