Canadian actress Malin Akerman is partnering with Neutrogena (R) to promote a viral video about self-examination for skin cancer detection.
The video shows a couple performing skin self checks to demonstrate how easy it is to engage with a loved one for early detection of skin cancer. The video is aimed at empowering consumers to take control of their health and encourage both men and women to check themselves for skin cancer.
“The viral video shows how skin examinations can be fun, while communicating the seriousness of the skin cancer message,” said Jim Colleran, President, Neutrogena(R) Corporation. “This video is meant to create buzz, spark conversation and serve as a ‘wake-up call’ to consumers about the importance of self-examination in detecting skin cancer.”
“This video and message is something I have a passion for because I understand the importance of checking your skin for suspicious moles,” said Akerman. “I recently had a suspicious mole removed from my face; I noticed it was changing shape and asked my dermatologist to examine it. I was one of the luckier ones because it wasn’t cancerous.”
Movie buffs will recall Akerman appeared in the romantic comedy 27 Dresses released this spring. She has two movies in the pipeline for 2009, ‘The Proposal’ and ‘Watchmen’, the latter by Zack Snyder (300 Director), in which she’s enacting a superhero.

Hollywood actress Sarah Michelle Gellar is the new face (and body) for Vaseline.
Buffy the Vampire fans have long since been waiting to see Gellar in the buff. So is she finally doing it? It would appear that way, if these ads are any indication to what’s the closest she can get to nudity.
Sarah Michelle Gellar, 30, has used the no-nudity clause to generate publicity concerning herself. First, she hinted that she might remove her clothes for the right movie. However, she soon followed her announcement with a contradictory statement in which she declared that she would never appear nude on screen or stage for any reason. However, Gellar already has appeared topless in an episode of Saturday Night Live, during which she covered her breasts with her hands.
Gellar said that she hopes you too will “keep your skin amazing” while she promotes her new petroleum jelly gig. She joins John Leguizamo, Amanda Bynes and Hilary Duff, who have been spokespersons for the brand.
Vaseline.com has a guessing game for this “mystery celebrity” and describes the model with the clues “She starred opposite an Angel” and “This celebrity lives a full life that puts her skin to the test. Her career began when she was just five years old and over the years she’s become a superstar of the small and big screen.”

French cosmetics giant Lancôme has tapped actresses Juliette Binoche and Laura Morante to front its Rénergie and Absolue Skin Care lines, WWD reports.

France’s Binoche is well known for her work with top actors such as Jude Law, Johnny Depp and Richard Gere. She’s only the second French woman to have received an Oscar for the best-supporting actress Oscar for her role in “The English Patient” (1997).
We will see Binoche, 43, in several films this year including “Another Kind of Silence,” “The Other Man,” “L’Heure d’été” and “Paris.” The star has earlier promoted Lancôme’s Poême fragrance, launched in 1995.
“It’s an immense pleasure for Lancôme to work with Juliette Binoche again,” said Odile Roujol, managing director of Lancôme International. “Her career choices, her natural and moving beauty, her independent spirit and generosity epitomize the values essential to our brand.”
Italy’s Laura Morante, 51, Lancôme’s Absolute Skin Care ambassador, has worked with renowned directors such as Giuseppe and Bernardo Bertolucci.
“Laura Morante is an exceptional and passionate woman,” said Roujol. “Her intelligence, charm and elegance bestow her with a special presence. We are honored to welcome her as ambassador for the Absolue treatment range.”
British photographer Nick Knight has created the ad campaigns for Lancôme.

Supermodel and businesswoman Elle Macpherson, with her lanky, bronzed limbs and sun-streaked hair, has proved she’s still the sun goddess.
Macpherson, 44, has signed a long-term deal with the company and shoot a TV commercial and print campaign. Andrea Horwood-Bux, founder of Invisible Zinc, stated that the choice of Macpherson as the new face for the US launch came about since she’s an Australian icon and well known in America.
Reports said that Macpherson will regularly represent the brand on a home-shopping cable channel when Invisible Zinc is launched in May.
But the Sydney-born model, now living in London, also got into a controversy with cancer authorities for her statement, “I don’t have the skin of an English rose but I know my skin and I tan safely.”
The Cancer Institute of NSW, which is running a $2.16 million summer advertisement campaign with the message that “tanning is skin cells in trauma, trying to protect themselves from cancer” slammed Macpherson for this statement with the remark: “Elle Macpherson might be a great model but she’s hardly a dermatologist or cancer expert. There is no such thing as a safe tan.”
But Mrs Horwood was quick to comment that the supermodel’s statement had been misinterpreted.
“What she means by that is she can go outside safely because she uses the zinc,” she said, while adding that she knows there is no such thing as a safe tan and that “the only safe tan is a fake tan.”

Australian actress Cate Blanchett, who has represented P&G’s high-end skin care brand SK-II in Australia for over three years, is now its global ambassador.
The Elizabeth star, 38, who will wear a pioneering new facemask in ads for the product, says she was keen to promote SK-II because it had helped keep skin in its famously good shape for the past seven years. Her roles have frequently demanded heavy makeup attention–two-and-half-hours worth daily for “Elizabeth”–and her skin requires extra care, according to Cate.
“I’m evangelical about it,” Cate said. She has appeared in the Lord of the Ring trilogy and The Aviator, for which she won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her portrayal of Katharine Hepburn.
“Our desire to work with Ms. Blanchett globally was a natural progression for the brand,” says Shivesh Ram, Vice President and General Manager of Global SK-II. “Since first using the products seven years ago, Cate has joined the millions of women around the world who have experienced SK-II. She has shared her discovery of the ‘Secret Key’ to beautiful skin through her passion for and belief in our products, and the miracle of Pitera(R). We’re delighted to have her expand her role within the SK-II family.”
SK-II, whose products retail for between $60 and $300, is sold in a dozen countries, mainly in Asia, and are also available in a few U.S. department stores.

Perhaps Vaseline wants to shed their bland skin and get an image as a swanky cream. Is that why pop sensation and teen fashion queen Hilary Duff is the new face of vaseline?

Even Hilary sheds her heavy make-up to pose for the new ad campaigns. Personally, I love the fresh, dewy look which we rarely get to see. But why would a hip pop diva opt to pose with petroleum jelly? The star expalined to Jared:
“”Skin is a part of you, and you have to be proud of what you have. I feel comfortable in my own skin. Sometimes showing a little is fun. It makes me feel sexy and girly.”
