Cosmetics and You

Blame it on Hollywood or on the fashion glossies, but there’s no denying that the concept of appearing beautiful is an inherent desire in both men and women. The idea of using cosmetics has had an enchanting appeal over centuries, so it makes perfect sense that beauty products are increasingly becoming a part of our daily life.

And the world’s leading cosmetic brands – made even popular by celebrity endorsements for top brands such as L’Oreal, Garnier and Cover Girl, to name a few – have added a touch of glamor and ‘thrill’ to the lives of many.

There’s a myth that cosmetics are just that – cosmetics. Nothing could be farther from the truth, in fact, they reach out to millions, adding spice to their otherwise mundane life.

The flip side? There’s yet another myth that the best cosmetic products and brands are beyond the budget of many. Again, this isn’t necessarily true – well, you may have to break the bank if you’re checking out Saks Fifth Avenue.

But not indeed so if you’re buying the genuine products from an outlet which is getting its supplies from an authorized dealer dealing in wholesale cosmetics.

Now, you may not be buying directly from a wholesale dealer, but the idea is that they get the world renowned cosmetics in bulk and offer them at extremely competitive prices, perhaps through an intermediary to reach you. And this is the best of both worlds… !

Bridget Moynahan Garnier Face

All-American Hollywood celebrity Bridget Moynahan has signed up as the latest spokesperson for leading skincare brand Garnier Nutritioniste, and will pitch its top-selling Ultra-Lift collection.

With print and TV campaigns set to roll out by July 2010, Moynahan will be following in the footsteps of select Garnier ambassadors such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Bar Rafaeli and Alana de la Garza.

Garnier said Moynahan’s flawless skin was the perfect canvas to showcase Ultra-Lift collection, which targets the anti-aging needs of women in their 30’s and 40’s. The cosmetics brand said the star’s aspirational yet approachable look was the key to her appeal.

Moynahan, 38, said: “I was introduced to Garnier Nutritioniste when I was working on a film and I loved the way it made my skin feel. I am proud to be working with a company that’s focused on products that are good for you.”

She is the star of the upcoming flick Ramona and Beezus (2010) and is currently shooting the film Battle: Los Angeles.

Serena to Serve — Skincare

World number one tennis superstar Serena Williams has signed a unique endorsing deal with Mission Skincare that will make her an equity partner as well as the face of skincare products that target the millions of Americans who engage in some form of exercise.

Serena Williams to endorse Mission Skincare products

Williams, 27, will be involved in the development of products, which include lip balm, sunscreen and foot cream.

Williams’ existing deals include Wilson and Hewlett-Packard. But will we see Serena on the courts showcasing Mission Skincare? That’s unlikely, since the terms of her Nike deal forbid her from endorsing any other brand on the court.

Mission Skincare, which recently hired former Reebok US president Bob Munroe as its president and counts former NBC Universal CEO and General Electric vice chairman Bob Wright as a board member, is filling a void in the skin care market by creating products for people with active lifestyles, said Josh Shaw, who founded the company and is serving as its CMO.

Industry reports say that the company has signed other athletes, including NBA star Steve Nash and soccer legend Mia Hamm, and wants to add more.

Williams’ personal agent, Jill Smoller, head of sports at the William Morris Agency, and Williams’ attorney Keven Davis negotiated the terms of the deal.

“Serena met with Josh a couple of times,” Smoller said. “She liked the idea of being able to create her own products there.”

Athletes “get royalties on products they develop with us,” Shaw said. Some of the proceeds from sales go to the athletes’ charities, he added.

Emma Roberts Turns 18, Becomes Neutrogena Face

Appears almost as if Neutrogena was waiting for ‘Hotel for Dogs’ star Emma Roberts to turn ‘legal’ before signing her up as their new spokesperson.

“Emma Roberts embodies the youthful spirit and confidence that have always been part of the Neutrogena brand and we are proud to have her as our newest brand ambassador,” said Neutrogena president Jim Colleran.

“To be a part of a brand that I have always loved and believed in is a once in a lifetime opportunity,” said Roberts. “It’s important to me to be associated with Neutrogena because they instill confidence and beauty in young women.”

Roberts, who turned 18 yesterday, joins a list of actresses including Diane Lane and Jennifer Garner as Neutrogena brand ambassadors. Roberts, is perhaps best known for her role in the 2005 Nickelodeon series Unfabulous.

The singer-actress is the daughter of actor Eric Roberts and the niece of Hollywood legend Julia Roberts.

Malin Akerman Tapped by Neutrogena (R) for Skin Cancer Awareness

Canadian actress Malin Akerman is partnering with Neutrogena (R) to promote a viral video about self-examination for skin cancer detection.

The video shows a couple performing skin self checks to demonstrate how easy it is to engage with a loved one for early detection of skin cancer. The video is aimed at empowering consumers to take control of their health and encourage both men and women to check themselves for skin cancer.

“The viral video shows how skin examinations can be fun, while communicating the seriousness of the skin cancer message,” said Jim Colleran, President, Neutrogena(R) Corporation. “This video is meant to create buzz, spark conversation and serve as a ‘wake-up call’ to consumers about the importance of self-examination in detecting skin cancer.”

“This video and message is something I have a passion for because I understand the importance of checking your skin for suspicious moles,” said Akerman. “I recently had a suspicious mole removed from my face; I noticed it was changing shape and asked my dermatologist to examine it. I was one of the luckier ones because it wasn’t cancerous.”

Movie buffs will recall Akerman appeared in the romantic comedy 27 Dresses released this spring. She has two movies in the pipeline for 2009, ‘The Proposal’ and ‘Watchmen’, the latter by Zack Snyder (300 Director), in which she’s enacting a superhero.
