Seeing London in Style–Without Breaking the Bank

Not too long ago, I knew a couple in San Jose, California who were near fanatic about visiting London, but were shying away because of the costs, the intimidating local transport, the hassles of foreign exchange and the stresses of planning the sightseeing. And I just heard from them last week–they had finally realized their dream. They had discovered the London Pass.

The London PassThat naturally got on my curious mind, and I went on to learn that the London Pass is probably the ultimate (and the only) solution to some fantastic value-added London Sightseeing. For one thing, the Pass is a virtual FREE key to 56 of the hottest tourist attractions–with one affordable ticket. What’s more, one can use the card to enter as many of the included attractions as they wish!

Queen Victoria Statue at Kensington Palace GroundsImagine this. You get more than £460 worth of attraction entry fees from just £12/day, plus you get to visit as many London Pass sights as you like. Imagine yourself amid historic London historic attractions such as the Tower of London, Kensington Palace (home to Princess Diana) and St. Paul’s Cathedral to modern day fun at London Zoo, Thames canal trip and the Wimbledon Tour Experience.

London Tower BridgeOther than free entries, the London Pass also lets you jump the queues at the busiest sigts with its priority access, and offers over 40 additional deals, discounts & freebies at selected restaurants, bars, theatres, shops and activities around London and optional free travel on public transport. You also get a guidebook filled with useful information on how to reach the sights, opening hours and their locations on the map. Add to this the comfort and the conveniene of not having to worry about how much you’re going to have to spend for each visit a spot.

London ToursAnd then there’s the sightseeing tours, cruises & walks of London with the London Pass, offering you a cruise by the Thames and city cruises with visits to the the London Eye, Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, Shakespeare’s Globe, the Tower of London, Tower Bridge and the Chelsea FC Stadium Tour–to name a few–all enhanced by professional commentary that’s entertaining as well.

The London Pass is available for durations of one, two, three or six days, with or without local travel and with options to add children.

Mikhail Gorbachev to Front Louis Vuitton

Move over, Scarlett Johansson. Mikhail Gorbachev is the new sexy and glamorous face of French luxury label Louis Vuitton.

A statement from from Vuitton, a division of the LVMH group, Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SA said that the 76-year-old former Soviet leader will appear in an ad campaign shot in front of the Berlin Wall.

Mikhail Gorbachev: New Face of Louis Vuitton

The ads focus on travel, a ‘core value’ of Louis Vuitton since 1854, with Gorbachev featured in a car, a Vuitton bag at his side and the Berlin Wall in the background. Graf and Agassi are also featured in the series, shown snuggling in a hotel room bed, as well as veteran French actress Catherine Deneuve shot sitting on a Vuitton suitcase in a foggy train station.

Vuitton stated it was making donations to former Vice President Al Gore’s The Climate Project to fight global warming and Green Cross International, founded by Gorbachev to promote sustained development.

The campaign will appear in magazines in September.

California: More Than a Land of Stars

To most, the first two images to strike the mind whenever the word ‘California’ is heard would be the sunny beaches and — of course — Hollywood. But I always wonder who made great California what it stands for today? Did the land make the celebs or is it the other way around?

While that can remain debatable at this juncture, I’d like highlight areas which have added to the intrinsic beauty and allure of Calfornia. Apart from the fact that California accounts for 13% of the US gross GDP, and is larger than seven countries in the world, Los Angeles alone attracts more than 24 million visitors every year, but it’s not just Hollywood. The Disneyland, the Venice Beach, the Getty Center of Art, while not forgetting La Brea Tar Pits, have all contributed to the glamor that LA stands for.

San Diego’s Panoramic Skyline

San Diego has its own special claim to fame with 70 miles of beaches, year-round splendid weather and some of the best nightlife spots in the world. And there’s something about San Francisco that will keep you hankering to be there for the rest of your here. (Trust me, I lived in the Frisco bay area five years, so these words are pouring out of my heart.)

It’s just impossible not to have a great vacation and travel experience in California. But planning ahead always helps – perhaps visiting a California travel blog could be a great idea to get practical tips and insights.

Twenga: the Dynamic Shopping Search Engine

To begin with, the bottom line first: You can’t go wrong with Twenga. That is, even if you tried.

Trust me, this shopping search engine is ALIVE! I’m inclined to say this because I began a search with a very rough mental sketch of what I needed – and Twenga did the rest. At each step of the search, I was offered user-friendly options making it effortless to zero in on what I wanted.

Twenga Shopping Search EngineTwenga, a UK based shopping search engine propelled by ‘proprietary crawl technology’, constantly updates its database and hence is able to offer the best shopping deals to users.

The two prominent features on the home page category bar are ‘Brands’ and ‘Top Deals.’ If you’re a die-hard fan of a certain brand, you can then just visit that brand’s pages and select what you need. On the other hand, if you love special offers, the ‘Top Deals’ link takes you to over 3,500 discounts, promotions, clearance sales, etc. from Twenga’s 3,000 merchants!

The category range is mind-blogging, and the products listed in each, exhaustive. I wanted to explore what was new in digital cameras and to say the least, I was amazed with the reaults page that offered a choice of about 3,400 digital cameras of 62 brands from 127 shops! And the options to narrow down the search included stores, brands, resolutions, types, screen size and budget. Now, is that choice, or is that choice?

The Anatomy of a Twenga Search Results Page

Perhaps the options you find in a typical search results page (in this case, my search for a treadmill, which I’d been planning on for quite some time) could be best described with a screenshot of the page.

From the sports > fitness link, I visited the treadmills area which looked like this:

A typical Twenga search results page

LEGEND

1 Price Drops – Lists offers with reduced prices
2 Store Names – Check out only certain stores
3 Brands – Lists products only from your favourite brand
4 Budget – Sorts according to price range selected by you

5 Refine your search (within search)
6 Sort by Popularity, Price Low to High or Price High to Low
7 Price Alert – Get notified by email of any changes in price

8 See Offer – Takes you to the merchant product page which offers complete specifications, alternatives, accessories and related items
9 More search pages!

You can find just about anything you need on Twenga. The fashion link leads to a page bundled with hundreds of bags and leather goods, fashion accessories, women’s skirts, dresses, trousers and lingerie and and suits and blazers for men, as well as polos, T-shirts, underwear, boots and miscellaneous fashion.

The computers section yields just about everything from laptops and PC’s to hi-tech accessories, wi-fi and software. Matter of fact, whether it be audio-video, household appliances, furniture, gardening, family, jewellery, health & beauty , sports & leisure, automobiles or even gastronomy, Twenga makes the shopping experience fun, hassle-free and completely satisfying.

The Twenga website is edited by Twenga SA, a French-based company, and the services are currently available in France, UK, Spain and Italy.

Preity Zinta is GoAir’s ‘Fly Smart’ Icon

Bollywood cutie Preity Zinta will bolster GoAir’s new campaign ‘Chalo India, Lets Fly Smart’. Her instinctive style, liveliness and fun loving youthful nature are expected to highlight the core attributes of the airline.

Announcing Preity as its brand icon, GoAir’s MD Jeh Wadia Thursday said it was the first in its class to “appoint a Bollywood actress” to that position. “The dazzling, gorgeous, charming” Preity personifies what the brand stands for – energetic, fun, stylish and youthful,” said Wadia.

Priety Zinta & Jeh Wadia at GoAir’s ‘Fly Smart’ campaign announcement

Well, what was the primary reason Priety decided to brand for GoAir? We at CelebrityBrands can’t help but wonder if there’s a certain Ness Wadia–who, incidentally, is reportedly dating Preity and also happens to be Jeh Wadia’s brother– pulling the ropes behind the scenes?

Priety commented, “My choice is always and is always just quality. I like to be associated with quality products.”

Online reservation. Discounts“When I was a young girl and my father was in the army, the idea of flying to his distant bases always seemed like a dream due to connectivity issues. I’m glad today GoAir can fulfil the dreams of other youngsters like me with their connectivity and direct flights to distant but exotic destinations like Jammu and Srinagar.”

GoAir also unveiled its new look website — GoAir.in — featuring interactive features enhancing web bookings for its passengers. Come to think of it, you can even download wallpapers and pictures of Preity.

As per the new summer schedule, GoAir now has a total of 387 weekly flights across 10 destinations in India.
