Disney Channel ‘wizard’ Selena Gomez will be the face of UNICEF’s 2008 Trick-or-Treat campaign, aimed at urging kids to help kids around the world by collecting donations on their Halloween candy runs.

“I am extremely excited to be this year’s Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF spokesperson,” said Gomez. “I want to help encourage other kids to make a difference in the world and show them that Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF is such a great, fun way to get involved.”
I think it’s an absolutely creative idea to get the spirit of brotherhood imbibed in kids. And it’s working, too — the program, which has been running since 1950, has raised more than $140 million.
I’m glad to see Selena lending her cute face to the program. So is Caryl Stern, President and CEO of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF.
“We are thrilled to have Selena be a part of the Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF program this year,” he said. “Young people can relate to Selena, and she is a great role model who we believe will greatly enhance the visibility of the program.”
Selena, 16, is now starring in a new DVD “Another Cinderella Story”. She was also in the news recently, having commented to TV Guide about a “getting-to-know-better” relationship with singer-songwriter Nick Jonas.
