Kate Moss, the queen of designer fashion, created a stir among admiring fans as she appeared in the store window of Topshop’s Oxford Street, London branch at the launch of her fashion collection for the chain.
As more than 1,000 shoppers queued around the block on Monday to get their hands on one of her creations, the supermodel was inside the store’s Oxford Street branch celebrating with family and friends. At 7:45 pm yesterday, the model appeared in the store window. Wearing a $390, burnt-red maxi dress to a cry of delight in the crowd.
Topshop let groups of shoppers browse for 20 minutes at a time to avoid a mad scramble.
Topshop chief Sir Philip Green, who lavished praise on his star designer, said: “It’s exciting. It wouldn’t be here if we didn’t believe in it. Her style is different.”
The 33-year-old fashionista, worshipped for her brand of rock-chic cool, has reportedly been paid $4 million for her initial contribution to the range, with another $12 million in commission to come by the end of the year.
The collection includes jeans, shirts and dresses designed by Kate.
To cope with the huge demand, only 150 people were let in at time this morning and were limited to just 20 minutes browsing and allowed to buy just five items each. Customers could try on a maximum of eight garments during the preview and could purchase five of them. The company said it was limiting the number of garments per person to discourage shoppers from selling items on eBay.
Shoppers can choose from 50 designs, including a vest top for $24 and a cropped leather jacket for $300. Other items include skinny jeans, one-shoulder minidresses and T-shirts with the letter K woven into the designs.
The collection includes a summer line set to hit Topshop next month.
