“Many years ago, I was fishing, and as I was reeling in the poor fish, I realized, ‘I am killing him – all for the passing pleasure it brings me.’ Something inside me clicked. I realized as I watched him fight for breath that his life was as important to him as mine is to me.
“I am Paul McCartney, and I am a vegetarian.”
Says former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney in this ad for PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). Photographed here wearing a trilby and a T-shirt with the words “Eat No” over a sketch of a cow, McCartney, 65, said he believed if the world rejected meat it could mean the end of famine.
“If anyone wants to save the planet, all they have to do is just stop eating meat,” he told Usmagazine.com. “That’s the single most important thing you could do. Vegetarianism takes care of so many things in one shot: ecology, famine, cruelty.”
“It’s staggering when you think about it,” he added.
Reports are in that we will soon see vegetarian testimonials of Pam Anderson, Forest Whitaker, Casey Affleck and Alicia Silverstone.
