Jennifer Garner Campaigns for Flu-Shot

Hollywood actress Jennifer Garner has kicked off a charge against influenza after signing up to become the spokesperson for the American Lung Association’s Influenza Prevention Program.

Jennifer Garner: The New Face of the Battle Against InfluenzaThe 35-year-old Juno actress, who was named ‘Woman of the Year’ by Glamour earlier this month, said women play an important role in the family, and it’s their job to care of those they love.

“That’s why I make sure my family is protected against influenza,” Jennifer added. “Look around, and you’ll see someone in your life who should receive an influenza vaccination. There’s the couple with young children, like my husband and I, or your parents, who are over 50 years of age, or your friend who will be pregnant during influenza season.

“It’s also likely you know someone living with a serious medical condition, like asthma, COPD, heart disease, or diabetes. My own father has heart complications.”

Ignorance about influenza has led to people taking it lightly. Reports show that every year roughly 226,000 people in the U.S. alone are hospitalized and an average of 36,000 die from the disease and its complications. Two-thirds of Americans are advised to get the flu-shot, but most don’t take it largely due to the unawareness.

“As one of the many Faces of Influenza, you and I and those close to us need to get vaccinated,” Jennifer says.

The Alias star – who has a 22-month old daughter, Violet, with husband Ben Affleck – has been recognized as a model of how to combine a successful career with a happy family life in style.
