Hot on the heels of being the spokesperson for CoverGirl, Drew Barrymore has been chosen by Gucci to feature in their fine jewelry line. It is the first time that Gucci is portraying a celebrity in their ad campaigns.
The “Music and Lyrics” star will underline the glamour of the brand’s fine jewelry line with images shot by by Dutch photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin in a Paris studio.
“Drew brought wonderful energy and excitement to this project. She is such a strong and confident woman, but her humour and sensitivity made her completely disarming,” said Gucci creative director Frida Giannini, who was personally involved in the campaign — from the makeup to the backdrop setting.
Giannini added that she chose to portray a classic image with a modern edge after several seasons of still-life ads. The ads reportedly feature a seemingly naked Drew, lying on a golden beach, surrounded by jewels.
According to WWD, fine jewelry is a fast-growing category for Gucci, one that accounted for 4.5 percent of the company’s revenues of 2.1 billion euros, or $2.82 billion, last year.
Launching in September, the campaign will be seen in high fashion books and magazines worldwide.
And well, I know the picture here is tiny and not exactly Ansel Adams quality, but will post the latest images as soon as they become available
UPDATE
Dani, in his comment to this post, talks about Drew who was first seen by movigoers as the cute Gertie screeching at E.T. Here’s a pic of the seven-year old Drew Barrymore.
