When you’re a celebrity, you’re likely to be rich or famous – or both. And some of them become adventurous, too, and take to sailing, mountaineering or car racing.
The 16th edition of the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup saw some of the top newsmakers in 44 of the world’s largest and fastest racing yachts competing in the seas off the Costa Smeralda. A a week of winds which made racing all the more technical and demanding for these giants of the sailing world.
George Lindemann Jr’s 180ft schooner Adela, in The Spirit of Tradition class, finished three firsts in five races.
The Spirit of Tradition division is often considered one of the most magnificent with veteran and reproduction yachts Holland’s Annagine and the majestic Adela providing photographers with spectacular images.
The Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup is an event initiated by YC Costa Smeralda President the Aga Khan in 1980, and has since then become synonymous with the Sardinian venue of Porto Cervo. A total od 44 forty-four “big” sailing yachts in five divisions (Cruising, Mini Maxi, Racing, Spirit of Tradition and Wally) took part in the racing in the Mediterranean.
