British singer Lily Allen brought her unique style to the High Street Tuesday at the launch of her own fashion line in London. New Look chain of stores hosted the star’s inaugural collection of dresses, jewelry and shoes, called Lily Loves.
The 22-year-old brunette, who wore one of her own floral print creations to the launch, now follows in the footsteps of Kate Moss and Madonna, who have entered into similar partnerships with TopShop and H&M respectively.
At a launch event, Lily took the opportunity to promote her range over that of celebrity rival Kate Moss, whose Topshop collection had its U.S. premiere at New York store Barney’s the same evening. Lily’s new range is markedly smaller than the supermodel’s at just six dresses plus footwear and jewelry.
The singer – whose hits include “Littlest things” and “Smile” – insisted that there was no rivalry, despite slamming Moss’ efforts. Allen commented to MTV, “Kate Moss’ range is great; it’s just not for people like me.
“Fashion can be fun and for everybody, it doesn’t have to be for tiny little sticks.”
She added: “I don’t see any point in comparing these things. I did not go into music to compare myself to other artists… it’s a bit boring really. We are just women and trying to get on with our lives.
“We have totally different fan bases. Kate Moss is a model for God’s sake. Of course they are going to sell more than I do – they are massive international names. I do not see it as a competition at all.”
Lily said that she looked at 300 of dresses that were in her wardrobe for inspiration and wanted something more than the “usual pretty flower style.”
Prices range from $10 for a flower ring to $110 for a “fox-trot ruffle” dress in the Lily Loves collection.
